Work at Frankie and Swiss!

edit: application close this Wednesday 2nd October

With Kate, our current printer, heading off to the Northern Territory to live, we're on the look out for another person to join our team!

“We are looking for a well organised and responsible individual to join our fun yet hardworking team to operate “Florence”, our digital textile printer. “Florence” is our large format printer that prints directly onto bolts of natural fibre fabrics using water based pigment inks that are eco-friendly, safe and free from nasty chemicals and fumes. We print in our light filled South Yarra studio and run an environmentally gentle printing practice.”

We are seeking the following in our printer operator:
-          A real interest in digital textile printing and a passion for print making
-          Ability to learn new software applications (Flo’s specific image processing software)
-          Excellent Photoshop & Illustrator skills
-          Knowledge in colour/colour management would be highly regarded
-          Proactive decision maker, ability to troubleshoot and be solutions based
-          While this position reports to the print manager, you must be able to work unsupervised and have the ability to work to a daily schedule
-       Min 4 days, preferably 5, from 10am to 530pm. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later.

You’ll ideally have some print experience either in paper printing or screen printing and including the attributes above, you will be driven by pride in your work, the drive to achieve and to solve challenges, can multi-task and manage multiple production tasks at one time and find reward in positive client feedback.

Daily activities include:
-          Preparation and layout of artwork files for print
-          Prep printer for daily printing and fabric changeovers
-          Fabric cutting using scissors and rotary cutters
-          Diligently and carefully maintain the printer, which can include dealing with ink
-          Care and attention to detail in monitoring the quality of the fabric as it is printed
-          Troubleshoot and report on the printer at the end of the day
-          Ability to move and load large rolls of fabric of up to 15kg

(Oh, and we are a PC based studio (yes, yes, we know...!) utilising Adobe Creative Suite CS6 and Creative Cloud)

So if this sounds like something up your alley, please send your resume and covering letter to Jacqui:

Conversations with Creative Women Vol 2 by Tess McCabe

You may have heard of the Creative Womens Circle already – we host most of the events right here in our studio! Run by Tess McCabe, the CWC is a networking, social and informative circle of creative ladies sharing knowledge and insight into the world of a busy, inspiring creative. Following on from the 2011 success of Tess’s first book, the new Conversations with Creative Women is coming out in Novemer! The new volume is all wrapped up in fabric panels designed by Emily Green, Lara Cameron and Catherine Campbell for the pre-order copies:)

Tess is such an amazing lady and she should actually feature herself in her book of creative ladies! Head over and get yourself a pre-order copy now!

In Tess’s words:  “Like the much-loved first volume, this new book is a collection of exclusive interviews with some of this countries finest creative minds. The full list of interviewees will be announced over the next couple of weeks, but here are just a few of the stellar creative ladies I had the privilege of chatting to for this book…”

In the beginning & Craft night next Thurs

I do love my blog here, and even when she’s left for weeks at a time to just be in existence without new stories (it does make me feel guilty!), I love blogging. And in fact, blogging is how this whole business came about really.

imageI started a personal blog in 2008 and discovered a whole new world that I had no idea existed. I started to follow many sewing blogs, and as I had always loved fabrics and making, became very much involved with the local crafting ‘gang’.  Brown Owls, a social crafting group started by AMAZING woman Pip Lincolne, back in those days was located in a warehouse in the back of Hawthorn. Kirsty (from Kootoyoo) and Pip were so lovely and ‘newcomers’ to the Brown Owls group were always welcome.

And now, 5 years later, it’s me that now feels so privileged to hold those same Brown Owls socials in our studio every second month. Shannon from Miss Jackson cafe in St Kilda hosts at her place every other month. We have both been ‘around’ from the beginnings in Hawthorn and love that now we have a space of our own now to be able to hold the monthly get togethers. It’s fun! And there’s cake! Anyhoo, I’m about to pop the post up about next Thursday’s Brown Owls in the Brown Owls blog and Facebook page and just headed into a little reminiscing first!
