Christmas Closure dates

It’s been yet another massive year at Frankie and Swiss HQ. We’ve expanded our little team to include Bridie and Cesur. And we said goodbye to Kate as she made her way up to Darwin for an adventure! We’ve been busy bees all year and we thank all of the amazing people we work with to make that happen! To think that only 2 years ago, Florence was just a spec of an idea. And now she’s a very busy lady indeed!

Thank you to all of the amazing people we’ve worked with during the year!

We’ll be heading off on holidays today, so please note we will be closed from 20th December 2013 and re-opening on Monday 13th January 2014.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Art + Macramé = artcramé

Tiel from Tsk Tsk is an artist whose worked I have long admired and loved. Pippa from Ouchflower makes tassles, knots and macramé, dip dyed to perfection. Two very different creative practices. So what happens when these two arts come together? This is!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Tiel’s artwork and Pippa’s knots are a match made in heaven and it’s so exciting to see this collaboration come to fruition! It’s been about 6 months in the making.

There are 3 of these pieces in existence. Pippa spent a crazy amount of time knotting away and it is truly reflected in her amazing work. Each of the macrame’s are different adding to the uniqueness of each piece.

Each panel is so gorgeous that I actually want to keep them all! But seems that other people think the same thing – one has already been snapped up! They’ll be for sale at the upcoming Big Design Market here in Mebourne.
December 6th -8th 2013
Just in time for the holidays!

Christmas Printing Dates

imageIs it beginning to feel a lot like Christmas? Maybe the festive season hasn’t quite started as yet for humans, but it has for Florence! She’s a very busy printing machine at the moment, and is getting busier and busier as Christmas approaches.

We'll be printing all the way up to Thurs 19th Dec with a last mail run on Friday 20st - keep in mind postage times! **Please keep in mind postage times!** Any orders printed after December 11th might not reach you before Christmas, so don’t leave it to last minute!!**

LAST PRINTING DAY = Thursday 19th December
LAST MAIL RUN = Friday 20st December

*Cut off for pre Christmas delivery for CUSHION/other product PRODUCTION orders = 2nd DECEMBER*

Please make sure if you have product production orders that you get them in to us as by 2nd December so we can schedule your project and send it to you in time for Christmas. We all know Australia Post is stretched – so allowing for postage time is super important!

Our printing turnaround is 7-10 days (with postage time on top of that) and production is 14 days (with postage time on top). We often turnaround projects quicker than that, but to avoid disappointment or rush charges, please give us enough time for your project.

We'll be back printing in the new year Monday 13th January 2013:)

Thanks!

Michelle

Emily Green :: Hobes :: Frankie and Swiss Shoe Collaboration

Hobes_sh_slide

Nearly a year in the making – drum rolling for the amazing Emily Green Hobes! What a great project this was to work on, Georgia and Emily are fabulous and creative women and are a pleasure to work with:)

They are super limited edition, so if you’re interested in a pair of Emily’s for summer, head over to the Hobes website. My personal faves are the lino pattern – it’s all about the the smaller scale and colourway in those ones that talks to me nicely! http://www.hobes.com.au/womens-hobes/womens-emily-green-hobe-1

In the beginning & Craft night next Thurs

I do love my blog here, and even when she’s left for weeks at a time to just be in existence without new stories (it does make me feel guilty!), I love blogging. And in fact, blogging is how this whole business came about really.

imageI started a personal blog in 2008 and discovered a whole new world that I had no idea existed. I started to follow many sewing blogs, and as I had always loved fabrics and making, became very much involved with the local crafting ‘gang’.  Brown Owls, a social crafting group started by AMAZING woman Pip Lincolne, back in those days was located in a warehouse in the back of Hawthorn. Kirsty (from Kootoyoo) and Pip were so lovely and ‘newcomers’ to the Brown Owls group were always welcome.

And now, 5 years later, it’s me that now feels so privileged to hold those same Brown Owls socials in our studio every second month. Shannon from Miss Jackson cafe in St Kilda hosts at her place every other month. We have both been ‘around’ from the beginnings in Hawthorn and love that now we have a space of our own now to be able to hold the monthly get togethers. It’s fun! And there’s cake! Anyhoo, I’m about to pop the post up about next Thursday’s Brown Owls in the Brown Owls blog and Facebook page and just headed into a little reminiscing first!

Date: Thursday 12th September 2013

Time: 7:30pm onwards

Digital Textile Print & Design Class - at the CAE

The CAE Winter course guide is out and if you look closely, you’ll see something new. A new textile class - presented by Frankie and Swiss! We are very excited to announce this 3 part workshop series – a journey into digital textile printing and design at Melbourne’s CAE in Flinders Lane.
Make your very own fabric – your design from concept to cloth! The first class is at our studio in South Yarra, a space brimming with colour, texture and endless possibilities, the perfect start to inspire a digital design journey.
image

273Join ‘Florence’, the 2 tonne digital textile printing machine on a journey exploring the possibility of printed textiles in millions of colours and the creation of art in another form!
Digital textile printing is the process of printing a design or image directly from the computer screen onto fabric. Whether originating from original artwork, a photograph or digital design, exciting opportunities are created for bespoke and customised fabric with photographic quality reproduction and complex and subtle effects not previously possible in printmaking methods.
In this 3 part workshop series, we will look at how to develop your very own customised fabric from concept to cloth. We kick off at the Frankie and Swiss studio with a digital textile printing demonstration and general overview. The studio is brimming with colour and pattern and will provide a visual reference and context for developing your customised fabric design.
We will explore pattern in detail and learn several repeat pattern methods in Illustrator and Photoshop (including simple and more complex tossed layouts in Illustrator, free flowing prints in Photoshop and an overview of the new CS6 pattern tool). We will look at how to prepare a hand-painted design, a photograph and a digital design for print and the application of various design tools such as Image Trace in Illustrator and Filters and Masks in Photoshop. Other topics such as file formats, file preparation, resolutions and basic colour theory will also be covered.
At the end of the workshops, you’ll have gained both practical and theoretical experience in developing a textile print from a sketch/photo into a digital file in both Illustrator and Photoshop, from initial concept through to full design realisation. You’ll be inspired by infinite colour possibilities, textures, decoration and the application of textile design for a multitude of end uses. After the last session your design will be custom printed onto 1m of natural fibre cloth which you’ll be able to pick up from CAE the following week.
Be inspired to widen your design ideas and colour palettes and create art in another form!

Head to the CAE website to book in.
